The organizers and the winner on the Dream Chemistry Award 2021
We asked Jarad Mason, the winner of the 2021 Dream Chemistry Award, about his impressions of the competition and his future research plans; as well as the main organizers of the Dream Chemistry Award, Pavel Jungwirth and Robert Hołyst, what they think about this year's competition and its development in recent years.
Pavel Jungwirth (IOCB Prague), host of the 2021 DCA
"What we’re succeeding more and more is getting really the best young rising stars here. And we’ve seen it this year: it was just totally fantastic."
Robert Hołyst (IPC PAS), co-organizer of the 2021 DCA
"It's very refreshing from the scientific point of view, because you see fresh ideas that are not burdened by any bureaucracy that we normally have in grants. It's just free imagination that drives the people that tell us the stories about what they are dreaming about. And at the same time, we see a glimpse of the future. If somebody who is thirty-something today tells you what he or she dreams about, in thirty years you will see it in science, you will see it in technology. So this is a glimpse of the future that we actually witness in the Dream Chemistry Award contest."
Jarad Mason (Harvard University), the winner of the 2021 DCA
"It's an honor to be selected as the winner. I think it’s a really unique opportunity to put forth original and creative ideas and to dream about problems that you can solve in unique ways. So, it was just an excellent opportunity to do that and also hear from the others about what their dreams in chemistry to solve are. I’m really appreciative of the opportunity to be here."
